I am not an athletic person - and I admire people who are athletic.
Many people mistakenly think that I am athletic just because I am skinny.
I have a horrible memory from childhood that my school friends voted me
for a running competition which I failed miserably.
I hated being bad at something.

So after since, when I saw friends playing frisbee or dodgeball, having a blast, I would secretly want to join them but never mustered up my confidence to be part of.
When I moved to New Mexico for one year, my friend invited me to join hiking a trail.
I was new to town and was making friends so I agreed,
which turned out to be one of the most intense hike I ever done to this date.
I wish I have pictures from that hike but there was no time for me to take pictures.
I was climbing the rocks, going under the bush, going off the trail.....
Plus, I was still learning English,
so my brain could not function very well that when my friend asked me "how are you doing?"
all I could say was "okaaaaayyyy"
Inside I was having an internal conflict.

But when we took a break on the top of a huge rock,
it was amazing.
Such an amazing feeling to be surrounded by majestic nature.
Feeling you are so tiny yet so part of it.
I am disgustingly sweating but feeling so refreshed. (with a slight relief that the rest hike down will be mostly downhill)
My real love for mountains started in New Zealand.
This is not the mountains I'm referring to lol
This is just my favorite pic of Tauranga, New Zealand.
Yup, easily picture the Lord of the Rings.
anyway,
it's not only the beauty of nature
or the sense of accomplishment
but also the relationship you get to establish
as you hike.

and that's where I met my husband too :)
I hike super slow
not only that I am short
and unathletic,
but also I like appreciating nature as I hike.
and one of the many things I appreciated about my husband
when we were friends
was that he always encouraged me
that I don't have to be good
to enjoy outdoor activities.
He's super tall and I'm not short
so he would go ahead
but time to time he would slow down
or I would walk as fast as I could
and we will have discussion
about from the stories of our life
to the philosophy of life or
my passion for women's role in the world.. that
I hope to write here some day :)

Now, I enjoy the thrill and the adrenaline
that come from hiking.
And all the good talks and a sense of accomplishment
along with fresh air and building muscles lol
Even though I am not super good at it,
I can still enjoy it.
As he puts it
"all you need is willingness to try and learn"
